The vast majority of people who don’t exercise think it is not for them. They may not have a good Gym experience in school, or maybe their families didn’t do much physical activity.
Movement of some form is required for all of us. Our bodies are made to move. We know this because things go wrong if we don’t move, and things get better when we do.
But how do you start? Here are 5 ways.
Walk! The easiest movement. No equipment required, no membership required. Add a friend, and you have a multifaceted health treatment plan. Mental and Physical. No one tells you to do this, though, because they can’t make any money from it.
Stretch. Find a simple stretching routine to start your day with. Youtube is full of them. Make it a goal to stretch daily upon waking. This is an easy way to add movement to your day. You have time, simply set your alarm fifteen minutes early and stretch.
Treadmills, bikes, rowing machines. These are upgrades from walking, although you can walk on a treadmill. If you have one of these in your home, use them daily. Make it part of your routine. I promise in 2 weeks you will be a new person.
Gym. Join a gym and then go to the gym. Note that it is not just joining a gym. Hundreds of thousands of people join gyms in January and then never go. The fitness industry is built on this habit. So find one that is motivating. Visit a few, read this post for “How to find the right gym”
Sports. If you enjoy sports, find one to participate in at least weekly: Golf, Tennis, Pickleball, Basketball, Volleyball are all examples. Sports can include Running as well. Whatever your sport, find a group or friend to keep yourself accountable.
It is time to get moving, and it doesn’t have to be fancy or require equipment. Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
