CrossFit Progression.  She’s a smart cookie with muscles to match.

What do you do for a living?

I work for HGST testing firmware on disk drives.

What’s your favorite thing to do outside of the gym?

I like to spend time in my garden and flower beds in the summer.  I also enjoy spending time with family – husband, kids, and grandkids.

What made you decide to try CrossFit?

We have a CrossFit gym right at my work place and management is supportive of us doing CrossFit and staying healthy.  I saw the other people on my team going and I figured I would give it a try too.

How long have you been at CrossFit Progression?

About a year and a half. I started in November 2014 with REV class 2 days a week.  Now I have added MWF 5:30am class as well.

What was your experience with fitness like prior to CrossFit?

I would walk on my lunch hour with a  co-worker and do a few quick exercises in the morning, but that was it.

What was your biggest fear when you started CrossFit?

My biggest fear was that I would incur my old joints.  That has not happened, thankfully.

Favorite cheat day meal?

As far as meals, sweets are my downfall.  When I’m stressed out I tend to go for something sugary – not very healthy!

What goal(s) are you currently chasing?

I’m trying to do my first real pull-up!  I am also hoping to do the entire Murph workout this year.

Official Murph update:

Murph went better than I expected. My main goal was to finish, hopefully in an hour. I did it in 51:52. I did have to walk some on the last mile, but I got it done! My husband Jerry came just to count my rounds. It was his first time in the gym, and he was so impressed, he ended up signing up for CrossFit before we left.

What’s the hardest part about CrossFit?

For me it’s not comparing myself to everyone else in class.  I have to keep reminding myself that as long as I am making progress, I’m doing ok.

What’s one thing your fellow CFP’ers would be surprised to learn about you?

When I was growing up, I hated gym class.  I was a book warm type who did not like doing any sports or anything like that.  Now I’m in the gym 5 days a week – go figure.

What’s your favorite piece of advice you’ve gotten from a Coach at CrossFit Progression?

“Just keep moving” – we hear this a lot from the Coaches, especially in REV class.

How has your outlook on health/fitness changed since starting CrossFit?

I’ve come to realize that our bodies were NOT meant to sit at a desk all day; they were meant to MOVE.  I feel a lot better about myself, how I look, how strong I am.  I know I will need to keep moving and working if I want to remain healthy as I age.

What has been your fondest memory during your time at CrossFit Progression?

Being on a team for competition at HGST last fall.

Why do you think you’ve stuck with CrossFit Progression?

Everyone is SO supportive.  The Coaches are willing to work with me, scale things down, and they never put  you down even if you need help with the same things over and over.  And all my fellow CrossFitters are always there to cheer my on till the end of the WOD.

What would be your one piece of advice for someone who’s just joining CFP?

Just keep coming into the gym.  Sometimes getting out of bed and getting to the gym is the hardest part.  But I have never been sorry that I came.  It always gives me a great star too my day.
