CrossFit Open 2018

The first of five 2018 CrossFit Open workouts will be announced on Thursday, Feb 22nd. We are gearing up for another fun CF Open season at Progression.

Not sure what the CrossFit Open is??…Learn More.

Taking Part in the Open at Progression

Like last year, Progression will host our own in-house Open competition, called “Friday Night Lights” (FNL). We will keep many of the FNL traditions you’ve come to know, however, this year we are making some changes to our FNL series. Read on for details.

Progression members will form teams of 4 people, with no gender restrictions. Get together with your teammates and decide on a clever team name. Then, register your team HERE. Teams will compete over 5 weeks (Feb 23rd – Mar 23rd) for points and prizes.

The cost of entry for this year’s FNL series is the purchase of a 2018 Team t-shirt, Team tank, or Team sweatshirt. Buy a shirt and you’re in! You can see the apparel options HERE.

Big Changes in 2018:

  • All Friday afternoon/evening classes during the Open will run as normally scheduled. Members are welcome to complete their CF Open workout at ANY class on Friday.
  • Friday afternoon classes (330pm and after) will have a special FNL atmosphere with a live DJ!
  • Plan to stick around after the 5th and final FNL event on Friday, March 23rd for a Party celebrating the end of the 2018 Open!
  • Scoring will be simplified this year. Athletes will have a WOD Score and a Lifestyle Score. More information about scoring in the coming weeks.
  • Top 3 teams will earn prizes.

Other Things to Keep in Mind:

We never know what Castro will throw at us; Open WOD’s may have to be adjusted slightly to fit the boundaries of our classes. Those participating in the CF Open will have access to open gym on Sundays for Open WOD completion or re-do’s.

Sponsors:

Each year, Progression opens sponsorship spots to members and their business/service. Sponsoring an FNL event during the 5-week Open is a great way to showcase your business or service. This year, 3 of the 5 sponsorship spots have already been filled by previous sponsors!

If you are interested in sponsoring, please message Michael directly for more details.

The Benefits of Registering Online:

Although not required, you can register for the official CF Open through https://games.crossfit.com/.

Registering online lets you take part in the official global leaderboard, and it’s a fun way to track your progress year to year. You’ll be officially competing in the world-wide CrossFit Open, which for many people is a little added push to refine your training and nutrition, and really give it your all.

If you’re still not sure whether the Open or FNL is for you, here are 3 reasons to sign up online or take part in Progression’s own FNL series.

  1. Be a Part of Something Huge

Last year, more than 380,000 people signed up for the Open. With such a wide range of CrossFitters involved, it’s a great way to see how you stack up against the rest of the world. Where will you rank this year vs. last year? Where will you rank against athletes throughout Minnesota and the world? This is your chance to find out.

  1. It’s More Accessible Than Ever

Only a small percentage of athletes sign up for the Open with a chance of going to Regionals or the CF Games. For the rest of us, it’s just a fun way to test our fitness. With the scaled option, it’s even more accessible. So don’t worry about whether you’re fit enough– it’s for everyone, so give it a chance. Progression will provide a modified scaled option for people who don’t care about logging their score online.

  1. Test Yourself and Set Benchmarks

The Open is a fantastic way to get a sense of your strengths and weaknesses, and find new things to work on over the next year. Plus, you might even PR or get your first pull-up!
