What brought you to Progression Fitness?

Answer…

My nephew initially sparked my interest in CrossFit, but I thought I was too old and out of shape for this type of workout. Eight months ago, after a PT appointment at Progression Fitness, I watched part of a class that re-sparked that interest. I made the call for an introduction to the gym, and that’s when I met Nic. I signed up for the 4 week trial and the rest is history!  Thanks, Nic!

When do you usually work out?

I love the 5 AM class (the best way to start the day). I often attend 3 PM class.

I live 35 minutes away from the gym, so anytime that works with my schedule.

What do you like to do with your free time?

Attend class at Progression Fitness, of course. I also love to camp, hike, bike, golf, and go for long walks on the beach 🤣

Do you encounter functional fitness in your life? Does being functionally fit help you in your job or your hobbies?

Being functionally fit has made such an improvement in my quality of life. I can actually move furniture now (don’t tell my husband— haha). I can hike more challenging trails, bike much farther & faster, etc. I have never felt stronger or more fit!

What is your favorite clean food?

I am not a vegetarian, but I love vegetables. I LOVE a good salad with lots of veggies. I also enjoy roasted/grilled veggies. So many choices there. I also love berries in my oatmeal.

What is your favorite cheat food?

I don’t cheat—haha. I would say a delicious fresh-ingredient, thin-crust pizza on the grill.

What is your favorite Crossfit exercise movement?

I had never lifted weights in my life & enjoy lifting. But I really enjoy lifting in conjunction with other CrossFit activities.

What is your most hated exercise movement?

I divorced the Assault Bike last week, a true nemesis of mine. Maybe Leandra can moderate our reconciliation, but it’s not looking good for the assault bike at this point.

What goals are you chasing?

Murph 2022, increase efficiency on cardio equipment, box jumps (I’m clumsy), Kip swings (when I can finally hang from the bar).

What is the strangest, yet true, thing a coach ever told you?

Rage On!  It’s not ‘strange’, but it’s always in my head now when I face a challenge.

Who motivates you?

Honestly, the amazing athletes and coaches at Progression. My family is very supportive & that keeps me motivated. Also my physical therapist (Thank You to Adam @ ActivePT; and Courtney too!).

What were you scared/nervous about when starting Progression fitness?

I was so overweight & out of shape when I started at Progression Fitness. I didn’t even know “the moves.” I quickly came to realize that no one was judging me. The sense of community is one of my favorite things about this gym. Everyone is so supportive & welcoming. I also love the “extracurriculars:” Fall Fest, Wine N Workout, etc. What a fun group!

Now that you have been at Progression Fitness for a while, was there anything you originally were wrong about, but now have changed your mind?

I can actually do this!  If there is something I am not able to do, the coaches are great at finding alternative ways to work the same muscle groups.

What is something you couldn’t do before, but now you can?

Plank, deadlift, push-ups, 250 squats in one workout, etc. There are still movements that I’m not able to do, but I WILL get there!

What is your Personal Record that you are most proud of?

My first 1:00 plank because I never thought I’d be able to accomplish that.

What is your fitness background? Have you played sports? Do you have a favorite sport now?

I played competitive volleyball for many years. My favorites now are CrossFit & golfing, but if anyone needs a sandlot sub, hit me up!

Are there any competitions/races in your future?

Murph—it’s one of my goals for this year.

I am interested in competition and not as fearful of that anymore. I’d definitely like to try the Tough Mudder.

What advice do you have to help others keep coming consistently?

You’ve made the important choice to improve your health & fitness…Keep up the excellent work! You are amazing!

What would you say to someone that is thinking about trying Progression Fitness but isn’t sure it is for them?

Just pick up the phone & make that call to schedule your free intro—What do you have to lose? This was the most important (& best) change to my lifestyle that I’ve ever made.

Have someone you know come up with a question, then answer it here.

My daughter asked me: What is your favorite workout you’ve done at the gym so far, and why?

Answer:

‘12 Days of NCFIT’ on 12/23/21. Because I hadn’t read the full instructions, only to find out that the workout flowed like the song 🤣. Which makes total sense, of course!  I didn’t think I would be able to complete this workout & was thrilled when I actually did! 💪.

NOTE: My preference is to be BEHIND the camera; not in front. Jeremy took this today; it’s the only pic I have from the gym
