Who are your Joneses?
Keeping up with the Joneses was a common saying when I was young. Maybe this saying is still used.
Judging by Seth Godin’s blog this morning, I guess it must be.
Where I lived in Wykoff, MN, there was a family with the last name of Jones. So I was pretty confused.
I heard people saying they got a new truck to keep up with the Jones! I investigated and noted that the Jones family did not have a new truck.
I eventually asked what it meant and then understood that it meant to keep up with those around you. Depending on who is around you, this can be pretty easy or very difficult.
You are the sum of the five people you surround yourself with. I think some of us have heard this one. For the most part, it is pretty accurate. Your parents believed it, most likely. “Don’t hang around the wrong crowd”, is something you may have heard.
The same is true of our health and fitness choices. Do your friends take their health seriously? Is eating out and drinking their primary source of entertainment?
Once you have found your goals and your real why, changes may need to be made. Unfortunately, some of these changes involve your friends and family.
Some people can live in both worlds. But not many. Do your friends and family support you in your health and fitness goals?
If not, it may be time to find some new Joneses to keep up with.
I know a couple places where you can find some new Joneses.
See you in the gym!
