Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Dylan Thomas
We have learned a lot in the last 10 years about health and fitness. The research is showing a very clear picture of what we need to do to live our best lives.
You’ve got to have cardiorespiratory fitness, strength, and even muscle mass to get the most out of your life. All the areas must be addressed. Focusing on one area is not effective.
Today I am going to hit on strength training.
The natural way of things are not in your favor. The importance of maintaining strength and muscle mass as we age has never been more clear.
The numbers:
Without intervention, people lose between 2-4% Strength loss per year. If you understand compounding. These statistics are mind-blowing. You can not afford to be average when you are 50. Read that again. If you are of average strength at 50, your future activity level and health are already at high risk. The data shows that the weaker you are the quicker you die.
The Power lifts, Bench Press, Deadlift, and Back Squat, when done properly and safely are critical to maintaining strength as we age. At Progression Fitness, we hit these lifts a few times a year in 6-12 week cycles. Simply by attending class consistently you are fighting against the natural process of strength decline. Thereby increasing your chances of living longer and being able to do the things you want as you age.
Longevity is simple when you attend a gym that has longevity on its mind. Longevity is always on my mind. Just show up and RAGE ON.
See you in the gym.
