DJ by Coach Nic I met DJ when he came in for his free information session at Progression Fitness. I remember thinking after his 1st session that he would have to stick with personal training for 2-3 months before he would be prepared for a group class. But he definitely proved me wrong. I think the key to DJ’s success was I never remember him having 2 bad weeks in a row. He would have a busy week at work, but then the next week he would be back at the gym again for his normal classes. I remember one time in December when he missed most of the month. I think he was sick and had some work travel, but he didn’t let that stop him from continuing to get results which would have been easy to do. Shandel and work out buddies I met Shandel for the first time in a class! She was a smiling ball of energy, interacting, helping, and encouraging everyone around her. Her smile is certainly contagious. I believe her success comes from her determination, her grit, and her willingness to continue to learn. She has always loved running and is a major part of her fitness. But she surrounds herself with everything we do at the gym, and it has made her a better runner overall! Her consistency at home, during these times by staying active with both her fitness and her family, shows me that she is ready for anything! Becky joined Unshackled a few years ago and has been a bright light ever since she walked into the door. She is one of the most positive people that I have ever met and her smile can light up a room. She recently purchased a Concept 2 Bike for her home and has been completing long bike ride challenges. What’s really cool to see is how focused and determined she gets when the workout begins. She jokes and has a good sense of humor when we are working on strength or accessory work, but once that workout starts, she’s all business. I often joke with her about the focus face that she makes when she’s pushing it on the Assault Bike. I couldn’t be more proud of her willingness and determination to push through workouts at home.  Passion Yesterday we talked about resilience today we will cover my favorite of the five, passion. The passionate person can only be defeated by another’s passion. The box checkers and putting the time in people will always be run over by the passionate. Passion is a deep sense of purpose that allows 16 hour work days to feel like pure joy. Passion filled people know themselves well. They know what they suck at and what they are great at. Acceptance of the suck aides in their growth and in getting things done. Results orientated, they tend to push through while others check out. Seeing others with passion excites them and they want to help and see others succeed. Well? Resilience Yesterday we talked about perseverance, today we will talk about resilience. Toughness, the ability to rebound quickly. Fall down, get up. All things we think of when we hear the word resilience. Resilient people are optimistic. They do not take themselves too seriously. You won’t find a resilient person comparing themselves to others. They take their current situation and adapt appropriately. Resilient people radically accept the bumps and setbacks and get back to work. A growth mindset also seems to go along with the resilient, the setbacks and bumps are seen as pathways to improvement. Resilient people measure their success based on where they have come from, what they have done, not on how others are doing compared to them. In what areas in your life are you most resilient?
