Dr. Sanjay Gupta has a new book out. Keep Sharp: Build a Better Brain at any Age. Today I will quickly go over his five pillars of brain health. If you belong to a functional fitness gym, you are already checking most of these items off the list. No surprise to me, the first pillar is movement. We are made to move, and our brain requires it for multiple reasons. As Gupta states, “The connection between physical fitness and brain fitness is clear, direct, and powerful.” Exercise in any form is better than none. Exercise like what we do at Regent and Progression is best. Second on the list is to discover. Learning new things keeps the brain fresh and agile. It is an exercise for the brain. In our classes, anytime we are doing skill work or working on something new to you, you are checking off both boxes,...

I had the opportunity this year to attend two two-hour seminars with Cameron Herold. During both of the sessions, I learned a lot and the information hit me differently each time. During the second talk, Cameron again talked about the success formula. I took notes on it the first time but did not take it to heart. The second time it hit me like a brick. The formula is simply this: F x Fx E = Success Focus x Faith(Or Confidence), x Effort = Chance of success Here is the simple exercise for you to complete. What percentage of the day are you focused? What percentage of confidence do you have in your business or attaining your goal? What percentage of effort did you put in? If you are 50% focused, have 50% confidence and 50% effort, your chance of success is 12.5% What if you are 80% in all those areas?...

One of the options at Progression Fitness and now Regent Fitness, in Rochester MN, is Flex online coaching. Originally the Flex program was developed for the person who lived too far from the gym or traveled for work. The Flex client meets with a coach 1-2 times a month at the gym. The client usually does an Inbody scan and then sits down and discusses how the previous month went, how the workouts are going. The coach and the client then talk about the next month’s goals and go over any new programming movements in our training room. The program is delivered virtually through an app. The workouts are done at home or on the road. Clients have found this program is just what they need to stay active and have accountability to a coach. The monthly 1:1 session is helpful to keep them on track and motivated. With the...

Great post this morning from Seth Godin. Famous Conductors Who do you see as the conductor in your life? We all have or had one at some point. How they did as a conductor probably significantly impacted who you are and how you see the world. We all need to be our conductor with certain things. Certain things are our responsibility. I will focus on three this morning. Our health:  Your health is up to you. Your daily choices, as well as your primary healthcare, are your responsibility. Going to the doctor, avoiding harmful habits, and exercising are all on you. This one is hard for some people because it is the one that a previous person did entirely for us as children. They either did a good job or not so good. Those days are over, and it is now on us.     Our nutrition: Very few of us are...

Sunday today, new fresh snow to explore, so I will keep this short.   Research on over 300,000 people has shown that specific things make us happy. And they may not be what you think. Here are 3 of the things the studies showed.  Activity. Doing things that require movement and physical activity is shown to make people happier than “Chilling”. Sports, Walking, Hobbies win out over watching Netflix or taking some time to scroll through Instagram. Put the phone down and do stuff!  Have at least one close friend. Friendship is important. People with one or two close friends are happier. A spouse and one other friend would be two. Friendships are more important than family relationships as well. Besides having one or two close friends, hanging out with small groups is also very beneficial to happiness. Ten or so people you frequently interact with are also helpful. Spend your money on...
